Celebration Assembly Folk Dancing

During Terms 3 and 4 the Middle School classes learnt all sorts of different traditional folk dances in the hall.

And after all the practising, we all dressed up in our 'flash' dancing clothes...

... and we demonstrated all that we had learnt to the rest of the Middle School and the parents who were at the Middle School Celebration Assembly.

Orienteering

To read a map you have to think like a bird, flying above the school.
It's called a 'birds-eye view'.

Room 15 have been learning about different types of maps and how to read them.
The first thing to learn is that you must 'orientate your map' -
otherwise you end up going in the wrong direction!

We have been testing our map reading skills around the school by doing Orienteering Courses.
Mrs Cammell gave us a map and the rest was up to us to find
the hidden clues.
The maps show where all the markers are hidden.
Working as a team sometimes helped.

Our job was to follow the course on the map...

... to the right spot where the little white cards were hidden...

... and then write down the letters from the marker onto our map.

Sometimes they were put in tricky-to-find places.

Sometimes they were up a tree.
It was also a competition to see who could find all the right markers AND be the fastest...
so there was no time to stop and pose for photographs.

None of us got lost... we all turned up again in Room 15 - eventually!
What amazing skills are emerging - accurate and very fast orienteerers!!

Andreas teaching the class Origami

Operation Origami

Andreas has worked hard to learn how to make some complicated origami models, including colourful floral wheels, by folding coloured paper.  He rose well to the challenge of teaching his class mates how to make these.
Thank you Andreas for sharing your knowledge and skills.

Science

Middle School Science Club

On Thursdays at lunchtime some keen young scientists can be found meeting in the Hall kitchen to explore and experiment.
Antony and Neil were fascinated to see what happened when drops of food colouring were added to a bowl of water.

Celebrating Diwali

Today we learnt about Diwali, a Hindu festival held at this time each year.  Some students and teachers dressed in traditional Indian clothing, including Shyla.  She and Shiloh also shared with us their research covering aspects of Indian culture such as food, celebrations, art (Rangoli patterns), accessories, stories, music, sports and clothing.

Shyla and Shiloh sharing their research.

We were interested to learn about Shyla's culture.

Room 15 Super Stars!

Well done girls for your achievements receiving the recent Middle School Assembly Awards. You are both very worthy recipients who display diligent work ethics in Room 15. Keep up the super effort!

Feeling Proud

Andrew displayed great perseverance and determination during Art's Week to complete his own projects and help others. We were very proud of his dedication and caring nature to complete his own work to a high standard and then be so willing to help others.

Autumn Fun

We went on an  Autumn scavenger hunt with our buddy class to find as much Autumn evidence around the school as we could. We each had a checklist to tick off as we found things. We struggled to find an acorn but a couple of groups managed to find this near the end. We enjoyed spending time outside with our buddy class exploring nature.

We found a variety of leaves from deciduous trees and noticed many different colours on the leaves as we explored them.

We enjoyed racing against our class members to see who could find clues to the Autumn hunt the fastest.

Mother's Day Writing

Super work Danya for receiving a Principals Award. Keep up the hard work!

Room 15 wrote Mum Is... letters to each Mum for Mother's Day. Each individual wrote some beautiful messages to their Mums to remind them how special they are each and every day. Here are a couple of examples of our work.
